Our History

KC Lions Club     The International Lions Club was formed in 1917 by Melvin Jones for the purpose
Art and Craft Show     of community service and improvement. Inspired by Helen Keller in 1925,
WV Eye Foundation     Lions Clubs have become known around the world for their efforts to preserve
Eye Exams     and restore sight. They have also become involved and active in providing hearing
Eye Glass Collection     services as well as in awareness and prevention programs for the diseases that
Drop Box Locations     contribute to sight and hearing loss.

Club History
Club Activities     You'll find Lions throughout your community engaged in service related projects, or
in fund raising projects to support sight and hearing preservation programs, or other
community charities. Many people receive eye examinations and eyeglasses, hearing
aids, seeing eye dogs, or even eye surgery that they could not have otherwise
afforded, through the efforts of our Lions Clubs.

The Kanawha City Lions Club was formed in 1954 and has grown to be one of the
largest Lions clubs in Charleston and in West Virginia. The club now has over 45
members and it is perhaps best known for the annual hosting of The Art & Craft
Show held every year the weekend Before Thanksgiving at the Charleston Civic
Center. It has been through this fund raising project that the Kanawha City Lions
Club has raised over 1.3 million dollars, over the past 40 years. ALL of these funds
have been funneled back into the community through our annual donations budget.
